Position Title: Choir Director and Organist
Compensation: $16,000 to $18,000 a year
Description: We are seeking a talented and passionate individual to serve as the Music Director for our vibrant Inter-denominational church community. The Music Director will be responsible for creating a spiritually enriching musical environment for our congregation, leading the music ministry, and enhancing the worship experience through diverse and engaging musical selections.
Responsibilities: Musical Leadership: Lead congregational music during all services, events, and activities. Play piano, organ, or other instruments during services, provide accompaniment and leading musical performances. Services include every Sunday, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Advent caroling, Christmas Eve and two concerts a year Spring and Christmas. (Concerts to be paid additional out of goodwill donation).
Choir /Direction: Direct and rehearse the church choir, fostering musical growth and spiritual unity among members. Prepare and organize choir performances for special services, concerts, and events throughout the year. Choose anthems, calls to worship, and other choral music for services and concerts. Choir rehearses Labor day through Pentecost.
Collaboration: Collaborate with the pastoral team to ensure alignment of music with the overall vision and themes of worship services. Work closely with other ministry leaders to integrate music into various church activities and events. Weddings and funerals provide an additional opportunity for compensation.
Recruitment and Development: Recruit and train musicians, vocalists, and choir members, nurturing a culture of musical excellence and spiritual commitment. Provide mentorship and guidance to individuals interested in developing their musical talents within the church community.
Administrative Duties: Manage the music budget, procure necessary resources, and maintain equipment and musical instruments. Maintain an organized music library and resource database, ensuring accessibility and efficiency in selecting music for worship.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency in piano, organ, or other instruments with a strong understanding of music theory and worship music repertoire.
- Experience in directing choirs and leading congregational music in a church or similar setting.
- Able to sight-read music from standard hymnal or other provided written music.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and individuals.
- A commitment to the mission and values of the church, with a passion for using music as
- a tool for spiritual growth and community engagement.
- Flexibility in scheduling, with availability to work approximately 15 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.

First Presbyterian Church of Lapeer is a 191-year-old church in Lapeer, Michigan. It has been a cornerstone in the history of the City of Lapeer. We are seeking an Organist / Pianist for our weekly Sunday Services. Our Wicks organ was designed specifically for our church and dedicated in 1949. It is a two-manual instrument that is capable of exceptional and dignified tonal qualities.

The organist provides the congregation with the gift of music by playing the organ and grand piano, on an as needed basis, for regular and special worship services. The Organist also acts as a performance and rehearsal accompanist for the choir.
General Position Description
The Organist at First Presbyterian Church collaborates with the Pastor and the choir director to enhance the worship experience for all members of the congregation. Additionally, the Organist is responsible for working with the Pastor to select music pieces to be performed at regular and special worship services.
The Organist will coordinate the playing for all worship services and choir rehearsals with the Pastor and choir director. This is a part-time independent contractor position that reports to the Pastor and the Chairman of the Personnel Committee. General Schedule of Services and Rehearsals
Sunday worship weekly at 10:30 - 11:00. Service times shift to 10:00-11:00 during summer months. Choir rehearsals are one hour, and are held Wednesday evenings at 6:30. Special services are held during the seasons of Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Special services are held on Christmas Eve.
Job Type: Part Time, Independent Contractor
Pay: $100.00 per 1 Hr rehearsal, and $150.00 per 1 Hr service.

- Attend music ministry staff meetings with the choir director, Pastor and Worship Committee as needed.
- Coordinate the playing schedule and music choices for all worship services with the choir director and Pastor.
- Monitor and maintain the Organ and piano, notifying the Pastor or Chairman of the House Committee of any issues.
- Performance
- Collaborates with the Pastor and choir director to select music to be played during regular and special worship services.
- Selects, prepares and plays preludes, postludes, and offertory anthems each week.
- Acts as performance and rehearsal accompanist for the choir at rehearsals and performances as needed.
- Plays as requested, at funerals and weddings, with first right of refusal for additional compensation.
- In consultation with the Pastor, arrange for qualified substitutes for rehearsals or services as necessary.
